HEAL SA provides easy access to Mental Health Services for Off-Campus University Students

HEAL SA is pleased to announce its initiative to provide free counselling services to off-campus university students nationwide.

HEAL SA has partnered with RESPUBLICA Students Living to provide the much needed services to students living in the residences they manage.

Through this collaboration, students will have access to the HEAL Helpline and HEAL WhatsApp Line, connecting them to trained counsellors who can offer support and guidance.

The HEAL WhatsApp Line, enables students to engage in text-based counselling, providing an alternative for those who may prefer not to speak directly.  They will be able to text back and forth with a trained counsellor.

The HEAL Helpline allows students to call free of charge for crisis intervention and stabilization.

These services are available to students from Monday to Friday at 8:00 till 22:00 pm. Counsellors will also assist students in accessing referrals to network providers and other relevant resources.

“There’s still a stigma around getting mental health support. Some students have concerns around confidentiality, while others come from backgrounds where treating mental health isn’t the norm. So the Heal Helpline and  Heal WhatsApp line will provide support to the students, in the comfort of their homes away from home and guarantees confidentiality,” Mpadi Makgalo CEO of HEAL SA, said

She also emphasized that mental ill-health and distress are more likely to manifest in students’ homes than on campus.

The collaboration between HEAL SA and RESPUBLICA represents a significant step forward in dismantling barriers to mental health care. Through telehealth solutions, this partnership aims to empower students to prioritize their mental well-being with confidence and ease, transcending geographical boundaries and cultural stigmas.
